Part-time Cantor/Cantorial Soloist

Temple Beth El is a URJ-affiliated Reform congregation founded in 1944 and currently consists of nearly 200 member families. We are proud of our values as a warm, welcoming, and diverse congregation that serves as a house of prayer, learning and social responsibility. In addition to religious services, we have a full program of Religious School and adult educational activities. 

We are looking for a new Cantor/Cantorial Soloist to become part of our Temple family, with a proposed start date of July 1, 2022. 

Responsibilities: 

  1. Work closely with the Rabbi to plan and provide chanting and music for worship services that include:
  • All regular Friday evening Shabbats
  • All holidays including the High Holy Days
  • Saturday morning B’nai Mitzvah
  • Community 2nd night Pesach Seder
  • Other religious and life cycle events, as appropriate

2. Provide an engaging presence on the bima and develop a rapport with the congregation. 
3. Explore novel musical ways to engage our community in furthering spiritual growth.  
4. Perform with volunteer musicians and choir during select services.
5. Engage with our religious school students, and lead selected services designed for youth. 

Required qualifications:

  • Ability to sing and lead the congregation in prayer and song. 
  • Well-versed in traditional and contemporary Jewish music and liturgy. 
  • Experience in leading Reform Jewish worship services. 
  • Being innovative, creative, and work well in collaboration. 
  • Ability to read Hebrew and music. 

Other desired qualifications and responsibilities:

  • Ability to accompany themselves on a musical instrument, such as a guitar or a keyboard. 
  • Ability to lead a service on their own if the Rabbi were unavailable. 
  • Ability to direct a small choir for High Holy Days and other festive services. 
  • Organize and lead an annual Purim service and spiel. 

The salary for the Cantor/Soloist position would be in the range of $45,000 to $55,000 based on education and experience. We are also open to flexible work arrangements, including the option of combining the cantorial duties with those of other positions in our congregation with commensurate adjustment in compensation.

Administrator  

Temple Beth El is a URJ-affiliated Reform congregation founded in 1944 with nearly 200 member families. We are proud of our values as a warm, welcoming, and diverse congregation located in the Inland Empire of Southern California. The Temple supports prayer services, life events, adult education, a religious school for youth as well as a Child Development Center that is available to the public.

We are looking for a new Temple Administrator, with a proposed start date of June 1, 2022.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilities and Office Management
    • Supervise Temple office assistants and custodian
    • Oversee the maintenance of Temple Buildings and Equipment
    • Regularly collaborate with Rabbi, Cantor, Board, as well as the Child Development Center Manager
    • Keep facilities safe and secure
    • Manage facility rentals
  • Member Services
    • Oversee communications, including website
    • Maintain membership records
    • Manage logistics of life-cycle events
  • Budget and Finance
    • Manage Temple payroll and taxes
    • Prepare budget and financial reports with Temple Treasurer
    • Collect dues and donations while managing accounts
  • Support/partnership with the Rabbi and Cantor
    • Provide administrative support to the Rabbi
    • Communicate administrative tasks to the Office and follow up with the Rabbi

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Experience working as an administrator within a busy office environment.
  • Knowledge of human resource management, with demonstrated success in managing, motivating, and developing office and maintenance staff
  • Experience with Paychex
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online
  • Experience with ShulCloud
  • Customer service experience
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or 5 years’ experience as senior administrator/manager
